Wednesday 31 December 2008 - I attended a symbolic planting of a Liberty Tree next to Denmark Street in Diss. Apparently, the tree could not actually be planted today due to local council directions regarding inadequate weather and soil conditions. I discovered Thomas Paine spent a year in Diss making women's underwear in Denmark Street, previously known as Cock Street; he was the best selling author of his century, with not just one, but 3 publications. I have already agreed to paint a portrait of Tom Paine at Thetford Library and now seek a public venue within Diss. The small gathering below...

Painting Paine (or Pamphilon Paints Paine)
Local artist Ned Pamphilon, who attended Thetford Castle Street Nursery School in 1966, is well-known in Turkey for his portrayals of Ataturk and in 2008, for painting publicly at venues in East Anglia including the Cornhill Walk Shopping Centre, Bury St. Edmunds (St. Edmund) and St Mary's Church, Redgrave (John Constable). Now he turns his attention to Tom Paine.
See and meet the painter in action during library opening hours as his painting develops.

Mon, Tues, Thurs: 8.30-6.00; Wed: 8.30-1.00; Fri: 8.30-7.00; Sat: 8.30-4.00

Wednesday 22 January 2009 - Yesterday President Obama quoted Paine during his inauguration. For example, there was a picture of Paine in the Guardian. There was a photo of the bible close by. Paine believed in God, but said about religion...
"All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christians or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit."

Wednesday 06 May - In a state of shock. Went to 'the church' to watch the Champions League semi-final and Man Utd savaged us; Arsenal. 1-3. Humiliating. Then this evening, returned to 'the church' to watch the second semi-final with Nick and Becky. This time Nick suffered as Chelsea were knocked out among several controversial refereeing decisions. Oh well; c'est la vie; bos ver; nevermind. Beck has uploaded my crop circle sounding recording....

Saturday 09 May 2009 - Thomas Paine's eyes looking decidedly weird at the moment....

I had to place the Queen closer because of the wind. Winston's just half in-half out of view. Pizza party tonight at 'Heaven'. Came home with a full moon sitting in the sky and the dawn chorus singing in my ears.

Sunday 10 May 2009 - I sat listening to Radio 5 Live as Arsenal were humiliated again, this home to Chelsea 1-4. I packed up at the end of the second half since I couldn't focus on painting any further. The eyes are looking very strange and the Queen looks on.
